The beloved Harry Potter series has gained a lot of controversy in recent years, with many accusations stating that the book promotes sexism and homophobia. As a result, there has been a considerable movement to cancel this book, with many articles written about this issue.

Today, I want to discuss why Harry Potter is an inspirational character and a person we should all try to learn from.

Unlike other book heroes, Harry has a different personality. Though he has a storyline like many stereotypical male heroes (being an orphan, having a mentor, etc.), one can see a unique character that sets him apart.

In the series, Harry is introduced as a shy underdog with trouble expressing his emotions. Due to the abuse he faced from the Dursleys, he developed a shy but somewhat resilient personality.

When he learns the truth about his parents, we can see him being confused about this new world and the fact he is famous for something he does not remember.

From this shy, awkward 11-year-old, we see him grow into a man by the end of the series and follow him as he tries to navigate his teens while facing a threat from a famous dark wizard, Voldemort, and managing his fame. And by the end of the book, he has grown a lot from the scrawny, shy boy we saw in the beginning.

Throughout the series, we can see a lot of differences between him and a typical male hero or protagonist.

One of the first noticeable differences is that he does not like to draw attention to himself and, despite his fame and wealth, is determined to stay level-headed and down-to-earth, which he does. He never boasts, and one could also say he was slightly low in self-esteem due to the abuse by the Dursleys.

We also see how loyal of an ally he is. He is willing to lay his life for his friends and will go to any length to protect his loved ones. Finally, at the end of the 7th book, he is ready to sacrifice himself to Voldemort to protect his allies.

Another aspect of his life that could be admired is his relationship with Ginny. They both learn to work things out, lean on each other, stay committed to each other during hardships, and be there for each other. Even though Harry breaks up with Ginny briefly in the 7th book, his heart is still loyal to her, again showing undying loyalty and love for his dear ones, which is a trait that could be admired.

Another less talked about (in my opinion) trait is the sense of personal responsibility he holds regarding his actions and what he needs to do. He is ready to take an immense amount of duty to help and to contribute. He is prepared to sacrifice his life for the sake of his loved ones and the rest of the wizarding world.

All these things make him an inspiring hero that we all should look up to. He is unique in his way and is not like other male heroes. He gives us a more complex character development. For these reasons, Harry Potter is a good role model for younger boys and all kids alike. It promotes a different type of complex, nuanced characters.
